Post-graduate training
Since my time as an undergraduate I was always intrigued by the idea of cranial osteopathy and as soon as I could I went and did some courses. First with the SCC and then with James Jealous and the Biodynamic curriculum. The Sutherland Cranial College (SCC) is a well established post-graduate institution running cranial course for practicing osteopaths. The faculty consists of some of the best osteopaths in the country and each module is very intense and packed with information. Each module runs every 2 years and they advise you to repeat some of them. In order to become a full member, one needs to complete all 9 modules to be able to use the post-nominal letter after your name (Member of the Sutherland Cranial College – MSCC). I have a full membership. The Biodynamic curriculum is the most sought after osteopathic post-graduate cranial course in the world. It allows the practitioner to explore osteopathic ideas in depth, each phase building on the previous one. Dr Jealous’ work is a true work of love that restored osteopathic principles to what it set out to be. Each phase has so much information contained that they advise you to do 1 phase a year so one can put in practice what you have learned. I have done all the 8 phases in England and abroad with Christian Sullivan in the UK and with Dr Jealous in America. My patients loved the results from the cranial work and I was enthralled by this gentle, green and organic way of working and getting folk better much quicker than normally. So I decided to expand my practice and applied for a place at the OCC. They were very kind to offer me a place and I started a 2 years’ post-graduate degree in paediatric osteopathy. The Osteopathic Centre for Children (OCC) is a charity and the clinical arm of the Foundation for Paediatric Osteopathy (FPO). We have satellite clinics at the Barnet neonate intensive care unit and at Middlesex hospital as well as new premises in Wandsworth South London. We treat over 2.000 patients a month, including mothers and children, and run a post-graduate course in Paediatric Osteopathy. Both the clinic and course are renowned all over the world with students and patients travelling from afar to the OCC. The post-graduate paediatrics course runs over 2 years and is very demanding academically. |
